Localising Forest Governance in Burkina Faso: 2007 – 2024
This paper presents the case study of a programme of work led by Tree Aid in close collaboration with both national and local governments and local communities over 17 years (2007-2024) in rural Burkina Faso. It demonstrates how this work supported the creation of an enabling policy and legal environment in Burkina Faso that resulted in local and inclusive forest governance, allowing rural communities to develop a stronger sense of ownership and sustainable management of their forests.
Promoting Community Forest Governance for Resilient Ecosystems, livelihoods and food systems in Mali
Implemented from 2021 to 2024 across six communes in Mali’s Ségou region, the project aimed to strengthen community-led forest governance as a pathway to restore degraded ecosystems, improve food security, and build resilient livelihoods.
Growing Food and Incomes from Forest Products in Rural Burkina Faso
From 2017 to 2020, we worked with communities in Burkina Faso to grow food and incomes from forest products. The project had some incredible impacts for the people we worked with, including a 161% increase in average annual household income.
She Grows: Empowering Women in Rural Mali
Our She Grows project ran from 2020 to 2023 and supported over 1,000 women in Mali to grow trees, food, and an income. We empowered women to secure access to trees.
